Ahlan Min Tell Brak

ceramic, 2025

A reimagining of the ancient eye idols found at the site of Tell Brak in Syria, who historically come in single figures, in pairs, with patterned motifs and families of four. The ancient figurines in pairs seemed to be embracing, others with their side long glances implied a conversation, a story. Those with fanciful collars looked to be wearing their very best. Carved and slip trailed to look like the traditional stone, my versions sprout from a whimsical and insulated community. It is a telling of history, of an inner world through the timeless humanity found through artifact.
