I Know Your Veins
ceramic, specialty paper, 5.5 x 4.75 x 0.3", 2025
A piece using the symbol of a horse as a one of abandonment of Arabs in a perpetual state of mourning and war, especially wars not known or felt by much of the outside world--an especially isolating experience. Horses, being tools of wartime of the past centuries to die or develop trauma alongside their veterans, carry on this same sense of dull ache. In the face of this, there is a fantastical escapism for our families and forefathers--in humor, bright color, and community. The horse is polka-dotted and hazy with the milky surface; he is a whimsical apparition. The net evokes traditional Levantine textiles, and the fleshy paper is used here again as a window to the healing body.
